  • Older travelers

It is conveniently located to the downtown shopping area. The staff is helpful. The bed was comfortable.

The Bar next door was too loud and made it difficult to sleep before 2:30am. Parking was inadequate... We had to park on the street about 100 yards from the hotel. We had stayed here in the past and our sense is that the owners have allowed the place to deteriorate. (The toilet seat cover was broken; the carpet was worn (patches of carpet were missing in the closet) and we felt that we had to keep our shoes on because the carpet felt dirty.) The complimentary breakfast was out of regular coffee and decaf, as well as sweet rolls, so we skipped it.

  • Group of friends

Easy to walk to the beach and the excellent downtown restaurants. Beautiful old California style, the staff was the best I have ever experienced, beautiful gardens, happy hour was fun and friendly. I'll be back.

Two very small east fixes: The toilet seat was clean, but old and badly stained. Should be replaced. And the balcony could have been cleaner, maybe a coat of paint and some hanging plants.

  • Couple

I liked the room, tiny private patio, jacuzzi, location.

I didn't like that they thought I had canceled my reservation, which I didn'T. They didn't have a room for me until 11pm, check in was supposed to be at 3 and for my 8 hour inconvenience they only gave me ten bucks off.

  • Older travelers

The first impression gained at any hotel is that given by the reception staff. This hotel was badly served by the receptionist who appeared to be engaged with other thoughts and didn't really seem interested in our presence. The room was very dark due to over hanging trees and even with the light on, did not present a welcoming feeling. When I asked about an ice bucket and water glasses, I was taken on a tour of other guest rooms to collect these items. The stay was topped off by some other guests who were drunk and noisy at 2am. I definitely would advise anyone to look elsewhere (unless you're desperate as we were on a holiday weekend)

    The coffee

One first site this place looked intriguing. From the moment we walked in, I was totally disappointed. One person manning the desk, no help in site. They did have one creaky old luggage rack and I mean one. The elevator smelled from mildew ( we took the stairs until we had to bring down our luggage). The room was ok, but you could see the dust flying in the light from the window back light. The great American breakfast consisted on reheated microwaved eggs, what seemed to be boiled sausage. One toaster, some small danish and Eggo waffles. The coffee was good, but they ran out. It was as if there were only 4 people staying there & they didn't care. The person manning the food was also cleaning the bathrooms, which did not give me the warm & fuzzies. The tv was from the 80's with a very poor picture and no menu or guide. The heater sort of worked. The shower was weak and would run cold if someone used any water anywhere. They left one towel and when I called for extras, they said they had them at the desk, I asked if I was supposed to come down naked and get one, they reluctantly brought more up, but amusingly there were 2 sets on the second day. It shares the property with a very nice park, but there are a bunch of homeless there. Would I recommend this to anyone? Not on my life, unless it was a last resort and there was nothing else available. A total thumbs down....except for the love of my life being there with me, made it tolerable.

  • Couple

This location was close to downtown Ventura.

There was no remote control for the TV, there was no shampoo in the room and we didn't get a morning wake up call as previously requested.

  • Older travelers

Good location- short walk to the beach.

Dingy dark room and furnishings. Tiny pool. Small area to sit outside room but too dark to sit there- no sun at all.

  • Couple

Loved the whole wknd!(our first anniversary!)! It was lovely. We liked the vintage feel, the quaint room, the wine at night, breakfast in the am, close to downtown(the Mission), & the beach.

The staff seemed a little slow, as in, not eager or jumping to our aid, and clueless of the area. The desk attendant had never heard of yelp... Even though they are local they didn't know what to recommend (restaurants etc)

  • Older travelers

Spa condemed by county health dept. for over a onth and not repaired.

  • Older travelers

Its location was great, right next to the Mission and Main St. and two blocks from the beach. The motel looks very nice as well.

Sleeping was tough, the bed was very uncomfortable.

  • Family with children

great central location, short walk to the Ventura Fair; nice jacuzzi

The receptionist: she first checked us into a room that had not been serviced (even though we arrived in the evening). She then checked us into a second room in which the key did not work (she admitted to programming the wrong room number onto the key). Next she told us the restaurant would give us 10% off since we were guests. After we got our bill the server told us the discount only applies during happy hour -- something the hotel receptionist did NOT say.

  • Couple

I liked the location & the friendly staff. Loved the old feel to the place.

The room was not very clean. There were glass cups of alcohol left out on the balcony along with some smoking butts. I dont drink or smoke so it was just disgusting to have to clean it up. We were tierd and had aleady removed some clothes to hang or I would have requested another room. The sheet on our bed was not a fitted sheet so we would wake up with the brown dirty mattress showing. When we booked the room were told there was a fire place in our room. That was not the case. Water pressure not so good, but hotel is old so it's understandable. Jacuzzi smelled & looked like it hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long. That was very upsetting! Jacuzzi is a main must have when I book a room anywhere. Our sink clogged at night and no maintenance was on staff around 9pm. I had to brush my teeth and wash my face over the tub. Wifi costing extra these days! That is just insane!

  • Older travelers

Very surprised that you do not take care of your property!!! Room was musty smelling, rugs were filthy, wall were dirty, bed was terrible, bath room was moldy and falling apart!! No Internet and no parking! How can you stay in business? It was Unbelievable!!!! No frig or microwave! And the maids came in the room when the sign said Do Not Disturd!! Can't read or what? We only stayed until we got another room! What a awful place! To bad since it is in the Old Town! Hope everyone heeds the warning! Don't stay here !!! July 2012

  • Older travelers

The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful with all the things that were so terribly wrong there.

We ordered a smoking room with balcony (a "deluxe" queen); it wasn't a smoking room, it didn't have a balcony and it was tiny. And it was seriously the most uncomfortable mattress I've ever slept on in my life; I had to recover physically the next day from the mattress. Also, we were supposed to have internet in our room for an extra fee, which I was willing to pay, but the internet didn't work; so . . . they said there was wireless in the lobby, but . . . The internet didn't work there either!!! So . . . the prime reasons I booked it in the first place were not there, not working. And the "free breakfast" didn't even have fresh fruit. And the room was a dump. To say they definitely cut costs there is a vast understatement. And . . . I've never written a negative review in my life; just hoping to save someone else the pain of staying there.

  • Single

Decor was charming. Definately has potential to be darling but very dirty.

Very dirty-windows, carpet, walls walkways strewn with branches, leaves. Very wrinkled sheets
